While both pieces of equipment serve their purpose, there is reason to note the differences between these two weight bars and which one you want to use according to your project.
Simply put, an e-line is an electric cable. When lowered into a wellbore, it is used to transmit data about the conditions of the wellbore to those above. They can be useful in gathering data about the well itself by gathering logging activities. In addition, an e-line can be used in workover operations that require data to be transmitted. While an e-line can consist of a single strand or multi-strands, its purpose is to collect data for both well intervention and formation evaluation operations.
A slickline can be viewed as the physical transmitter. A slickline’s purpose is to place and recover wellbore equipment such as plugs, gauges and valves, among other things. It can also be used for adjustments and repairs, such as adjusting valves or repairing tubing down inside the wellbore.
Once you know which line you need, the next step is deciding the tubing size. Keep in mind, there are standard weight bars, however not all wellbores are one-size-fits-all and a custom-designed weight bar would be necessary.
